Manchester
House is less than a mile from the Falls. We suggest that you walk along
the Gorge to the Falls - ask for our scenic walk directions - or walk
three blocks to the "Scenic Trolley" and ride to the Falls
(there is no charge for the part of the ride to the Falls). You can
also drive your car down and park free in the Seneca Niagara Casino
parking garage on Niagara Street.
State Park Parking costs
$10.00 at the Falls, and $8.00 on Goat Island. We recommend that you
take the "Scenic Trolley" (Fare adults $2.00, children 6-12
$1.00) for a ride around the Falls. You can get on and off as you wish
during the 30 minute circle tour. If you walk toward the Gorge you can
even catch the Trolley at the Discovery Center about three blocks from
Manchester House. Most visitors also take a Maid-of-the-Mist Boat Trip
($11.50 for adults, $6.75 for children). Many also enjoy the Cave of
the Winds. These attractions operate Memorial Day to late October.
A package "Passport to Niagara Falls" ($24.50 adults, $17.50 children) includes Cave
of the Winds, Festival Theatre, Observation Tower, Maid of the Mist Boat Ride, Aquarium, Discovery Center,
and "Scenic Trolley" plus other discount coupons.
The Great American Balloon Co. (716-278-0824) offers a 15 minute balloon
ride about 400 feet high for $20 (adults) and $10 (children) and AAA and Senior Discounts are offered. You can hardly
miss this attraction, located near the Falls.
The Niagara Aerospace Museum is not far away at 345 Third Street (Telephone
(716) 278-0060). Discover the rich aviation history of Western New York
here. Perhaps you saw the CBS 60 Minutes segment about the Museum on January 12, 2005. (Admission $7.00 adult, & $4.00 child). The Seneca-Niagara Casino
is near the Museum, and is always open.
You can easily walk across
the Rainbow Bridge into Canada (50 cents round trip toll per person).
If you drive over, you'll pay C$18.00 to park your car at the Falls,
or C$6.50 at the Rapidsview lot .further away. Ask the bridge personnel
for directions to the People Mover Station. The People Mover offers
a circular trip of 19 miles from the Falls to Queenston Park. You can
get off one vehicle, see the sights, and get on the next one that comes
along. The fare is C$7.50 for adults, and C$4.50 for children plus tax.
Or - and we recommend it - you can buy a "Niagara Falls Great Gorge
Adventure Pass" at an all inclusive price of C$37.95 for adults, and
C$23.95 for children 6-12. The Pass gets you one-day People Mover and
Incline Railway rides plus free admission to the Journey Behind the
Falls, the White Water Boardwalk, the Maid of the Mist and the Butterfly
Conservatory. . If you don't hurry, you can spend 6 hours doing the
"Explorer's Passport" tour, and see a lot of the area.
If you don't have a car,
this web page should
help, or take a package bus tour or rent a bicycle. Tour operators will
pick you up and return directly to Manchester House. Bicycle rental
is available at Bikes & Hikes, 526 Niagara Street, and arrangements
can be made to have your bike delivered to Manchester House. Telephone
(716) 278-0047.
The Falls are illuminated at
night. We can advise you of illumination times. It is a sight well worth
seeing. There is a fireworks display over the Falls every Friday and Sunday
evening at 10:00 PM from mid-May through August.
Many visitors ask: "Should
I view the Falls from the US or the Canadian side?" Our answer is to view
them from both sides. The US side is "up close" while the Canadian side
presents a broad, more distant, panorama.
If you intend to drive a rental
car in Canada, mention this to the rental company when you rent the car.
This will insure that you are provided with the proper documentation.
Gasoline is less expensive on this side of the border. Fill your car's
tank before you venture into Canada.
If you are a Canadian or US
Citizen, it is easy to cross the border. Remember to bring proof of citizenship
along, in case you are questioned. A driver's license is NOT proof; passports,
birth certificates or "green cards" ARE. Non-citizens need to make sure
that their documentation for both Canada and the US is in order. Our local
French Chef had this problem after visiting Canada; he never returned,
and his restaurant closed very quickly!
