Getting Around Without an
Automobile
Of
course, the Falls, Aquarium, Discovery Center, Casino, and Conference
Center are all within easy walking distance of Manchester House. However,
for destinations further afield on the U. S. side, you can catch a City
Bus to many destinations. The main bus station is located on Portage
Road, about 3 blocks from Manchester House. There is a sharply reduced
cost for "senior citizens" age 65 and above. Bring a US Medicare Card
along as proof that you are eligible for that reduced rate.
Here are
links to the bus schedules:
Bus
Route 50 - The University Bus serves Niagara University, Mount
St. Mary's Hospital, and the Village of
Lewiston (50-A bus)
Bus
Route 52 - The Hyde Park bus also serves Niagara University
and Mount St. Mary's Hospital and it also is the way to get to the train
station by bus (ask the driver to let you off there or you will never
find it).
Bus
Route 54 - The Military Road Bus serves the Prime Outlets Discount
Mall on Military Road (the largest Mall in the area) as well as the
Summit Park Mall in Wheatfield.
Bus
Route 55 - The Pine Avenue Bus goes along Pine Avenue past the
restaurants on our recommended list.
Some other
useful routes include
Bus number 40 (serving Grand Island and Buffalo), and
Bus number 53 which serves the Niagara Falls Airport (no scheduled
commercial flights from this airport).
The Metro
Bus web site has additional information that may be useful during
your visit.
Once you cross
the Rainbow Bridge into Canada, their People-Mover
system along the Niagara River shore will take you to many sight-seeing
destinations. On the New York side of the Niagara River, the Scenic
Trolley serves points throughout the State Park at the Falls.
You can board a trolley at the Discovery Center, three blocks from Manchester
House.
